The Reggiane Re.2002 Ariete (“Ram”) was a capable fighter that could also carry a significant payload, making it suitable for fighter-bomber roles, particularly during the Allied landings in Sicily. After Italy’s armistice, surviving Arietes were used by both the Italian Co-Belligerent Air Force (fighting alongside the Allies) and by the Germans. Despite its potential, production of the Ariete was limited, with only 225 aircraft built.
