First in Flight is a push-your-luck, deck-building game centered on the thrilling race to early flight. Players step into the shoes of the Wright Brothers, Samuel Langley, and other aviation pioneers, competing to design, build, and pilot the "flyers" that paved the way for modern airplanes. Each player’s flyer design is represented by a deck of cards, which they can gradually enhance and refine. However, hidden design flaws might jeopardize their success.

The act of flying in the game involves a blackjack-style challenge where players test their designs, attempt to break new records, and gain valuable experience—all while trying to avoid crashing. After each flight attempt, players return to the workshop to refine their flyers, improving their chances for success in future flights. With a variety of available technologies, pilot skills, and supportive friends in the field, players can customize their play style and strategy, making each game a unique race to the skies.
