An illustrated history of the Messerschmitt Me 262, the first jet-powered combat aircraft, and its brief but intense role during World War II.

Equipped with the Jumo 004 jet engine, the Me 262 surpassed all Allied aircraft in speed and firepower. As an interceptor, it boasted impressive armament with four 30 mm MK 108 nose-mounted cannons. This combination of firepower and speed allowed the Me 262A-1a to not only wreak havoc on Allied bomber formations but also to outmaneuver their fighter escorts, including even the later marks of the Spitfire and the powerful P-51 Mustang.

In this new study, Luftwaffe expert Robert Forsyth draws from first-hand accounts of Me 262 pilots to recount their attacks on Allied bombers and their escorts, as well as hit-and-run missions targeting road junctions, airfields, vehicle columns, troop gatherings, and supply depots. The narrative is enriched by vivid illustrations, including archival photos and specially commissioned artwork profiles.
