In the late 14th century, King D. João I commissioned the construction of the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, one of Portugal's most elegant monasteries. Esteemed architects, master craftsmen, and apprentices from across Europe flocked to the site, drawn by the promise of financial rewards, prestige, and the pursuit of knowledge.

In Moesteiro, players take on the role of architects leading teams of workers and master artisans, competing to become the most renowned architect of their era.

The game unfolds over five rounds. Once all dice have been placed, players will execute actions in the sequence of the action areas, from I to V. Afterward, each player will have a chance to contribute to the monastery's construction. Victory Points (VPs) can be earned throughout the game from King tiles, the village, and by aiding in the monastery's construction. At the end of the game, additional VPs are awarded for sets of unused stonework and stained glass tiles, as well as for positions on the labor track. The player with the most VPs at the end wins.
