Pike & Shotte: Louis De Bourbon

Louis, a young nobleman from one of France’s most prominent families, rose quickly through the ranks. He displayed natural leadership skills, even governing Burgundy as a teenager. He achieved early military glory at Rocroi, decisively defeating the Spanish and ending the dominance of their tercios. He later fought alongside Turenne in Germany, achieving strategic victories despite inconclusive battles at Freiburg and Nördlingen.

Following political turmoil, Louis proved crucial in quelling rebellions and thwarting Spanish intervention in France. His victory at Lens marked the end of the Thirty Years’ War. Despite a period of conflict with Turenne, they ultimately reconciled and fought together against the Dutch, culminating in the bloody Battle of Seneffe.
