This game is a prequel to Here I Stand, designed by Ed Beach and published by GMT Games. It accommodates 4 players, each representing one of the following powers: Muslim, French, Portuguese, and Spanish. The game covers the reign of the Catholic Monarchs and the voyages of the Age of Discovery.
As a card-driven game (CDG), players aim to achieve 45 victory points (VP) within a maximum of 7 turns to win. Players use cards to trigger events or perform actions specific to their power, each action having a particular cost. Victory points can be earned through military objectives, discovering new regions, trade, royal marriages, or special events.
The gameplay involves alternating turns where players play cards and resolve actions. Combat is determined by dice rolls, with the potential support of combat cards and considerations of unit types.
