Terra Mystica: Merchants of the Seas brings new dimensions to the game by introducing trade via ships that sail the rivers. Players can build shipyards to upgrade their shipping capabilities and produce ships with 20 new faction board extensions. Exporting factions earn VP and resources based on their deliveries, while factions importing ships gain power. Ships can dig, build in adjacent hexes, or even be consumed to create new Dwellings, adding a new layer of tactical movement to the game.
The expansion also includes 12 new round scoring tiles, four ship-related favors, three new bonus tiles, three additional power actions, town tiles, and two new maps: Loon Lakes and Fjords. These elements can be used with the base game, and while the Fire & Ice expansion is not required, materials for it are included.
